These photos were taken in Joshua Tree National Park in CA in May 2005 during a heat wave when temperatures reached 102 F in the late afternoons all three days!
One of numerous blooms on the beaver tail cactus. It's quite amazing that such a prickly plant could produce such paper tissue delicate flowers!
