Kay Jones > I love poppies; they dance in the ocean breeze. The cats think that they are balloons for them to play with.

Kay Jones > All of the cats enjoy scratching on the many pieces of driftwood in the backyard. This is Ror scratching on a piece of driftwood that was buried in an upright position just for the cats to scratch on and climb.
Kay Jones > My sun circle is on the right; Tom's pagoda for shade is on the left. We have a wood stove under the pagoda. Watching the plants grow gives me much pleasure.
Kay Jones > This is a photo of my sun circle in our backyard. The arbor will be finished this fall and have shelves for the cats. Chinese wisteria, that is now small but growing fast, will eventually decorate the arbor.
Kay Jones > I have two bird feeders in this tulip poplar tree. I have seen as many as 12 goldfinches feeding here. The hummingbirds love the tulip poplar flowers and the red geraniums in the planters on the deck. The red penstemmon growing under my office window and the pineapple sage that blooms red in September also attracts the hummers. Under this tree, live a variety of hebe bushes that the cats use as hiding places to watch the birds. These hebes must be strong to survive the cats playing in them! Tom is also planting some ferns in the shade of this tree.
Kay Jones > When I see the cats circling a shrub or piece of driftwood, I suspect that they are hearing gophers. Gopher tunnels pop-up all over this yard. I don't mind the gophers eating the many old roots from the previous yard-jungle, but they also eat new bulbs that I have planted. I have been stuffing the gopher air holes with used kitty litter. Hopefully, eventually, the cats' odors will keep them out of the garden.
Kay Jones > Our cats often occupy the bed in our guest room.
